BAYI will host an Extemporaneous Speech Contest for teens from area high schools, with the purpose of providing a fun, engaging activity that will boost students’ self confidence and help them develop tools that will serve them in life.
The Extemporaneous Speech Contest will feature thirty high school students, chosen by their respective school staffs, from ten schools in the Banjul area. The contest will consist of three rounds in which contestants are given a random topic which they must discuss for three minutes.
Practice sessions for the Contest and the Contest itself will help students learn to think on their feet and to articulate facts and ideas to a crowd of their peers and other guests invited from the community. The exercise will inspire confidence in students and provide a healthy forum into which they can channel their energy. The cost of the project will pay for t-shirts for participants, the fee to rent the auditorium in which the competition will be held, and for lunch for the participants and moderators on the day of the Contest.
