Banjul, GAMBIA / Northern and Western Africa
BAYI will hold 4 after-school talks at 3 high schools in the capital city of Banjul to inform youths about global climate change and other environmental issues. The science-based talks will also include practical tips for combating the ill effects of climate change, and will focus on issues particularly prevalent in Africa, such as unchecked industrial fumes, bush fires set by farmers and tree felling that leads to desertification.
The project will also include an interactive component – students will help plant trees in two local parks and help run a recycling drive. By educating students and getting them involved in taking care of the environment, BAYI hopes to inspire the populations it serves to contribute to healthier living conditions.
