Gulu, UGANDA / Southern Africa
The northern region of Uganda experiences frequent power outages; sometimes lasting 5 days or more. KKI would like to purchase a diesel generator in order to continue its programs despite such outages. Day to day, KKI’s crochet program is dependent upon the organization’s ability to print out production schedules, agendas, and keep phones charged. These supportive elements are vital to the operation of KKI’s work in the country. KKI aims to purchase a diesel generator in order to operate effectively during long power outages.
Rolling blackouts and power outages in northern Uganda are debilitating to many organizations in the area. Certain areas have been known to remain without power for a week or more. This problem effects everyone from the administrators to the beneficiaries of the crochet program.
By having the ability to generate enough electricity to continue in ordinary tasks, KKI’s programs will be able to run effectively and on time. It also provides an opportunity for the beneficiaries to bring electrical items that need to be charged during long periods of blackouts. A diesel generator is one simple item that can improve the effectiveness of our program greatly.
