Banjul, GAMBIA / Northern and Western Africa
School authorities from eight highs schools in Banjul will select students to compete in a Debate Competition to be hosted by BAYI. Up to 60 students will participate in the competition, which will consist of four rounds. The finals will be covered by local media and will be held at The University of the Gambia.
The Debate Competition is one part of BAYI’s drive to draw attention to education in The Gambia and to encourage intellectual stimulation and growth. Participants will develop their oratory skills, and topics of debate will focus on issues affecting The Gambia, such as how best to combat the scourge of HIV-AIDS, and other pressing concerns such as international trade and agriculture. The $970 requested for the project will be used predominantly to cover the cost of renting a space for all four rounds.
