Just $39 will cover the cost of a month’s worth of attendance at school for a former street child. CSK is raising funds to support 20 children who have a desire to attend school but cannot afford the associated fees. The students attend a commercial school for English language and computer skills while also attending the Cambodian Public School for Khmer language and other subjects. Both schools require fees. Some of the students have elected to attend additional classes to enable them to catch up with their peers since they started a few years late. The Funds are disbursed by a local Cambodian University student who oversees the participants, and cover school fees, books, supplies, school uniforms, shoes, and some transportation costs.
Without an opportunity to attend school, these children are exposed to serious sexual exploitation, crime, and never-ending poverty. Many of these children have a mother but few fathers are alive or present to help them. A high-school diploma will go a long way in Cambodia to help these children ultimately obtain meaningful employment and assist their families. Most importantly they achieve a sense of dignity by attending school. This is an on-going project; CSK will pay for as many months of school costs as funding allows.
