Starfish Africa provides tuition sponsorship to academically outstanding, yet financially needy students in Kenya. Starfish Africa currently sponsors 38 students at 11 top-tier high schools in and around Nairobi, Kenya. In addition to providing for educational needs, Starfish Africa also facilitates the leadership and vocational development of the students is sponsors. This approach enables students to positively impact their family, their community, and ultimately their country.

Millions of young African schoolchildren are unable to continue their education past a certain point due to their inability to pay school fees. Even some of the most capable children, whose intellects offer a key to African development and self-sufficiency, are left stranded, unable to finance the appropriate next step. In short, many of Africa's brightest young stars – the leaders of tomorrow – are idle. Starfish Africa seeks to give bright, motivated youths a chance to do more and go further by providing the funds necessary to receive a top high school education.

The tuition grants provided by Starfish Africa are not in and of themselves the answer. The organization uses finances to help eliminate hurdles, but its commitment is to its students, not their diplomas. Additionally, to diminish dependency and facilitate ownership, Starfish Africa requires the families and communities of its sponsored students to foot a very small (but economically meaningful) portion of the education bill.
Starfish Africa is motivated by Christian faith and desires to answer the Biblical call to care for the less fortunate. Education is one way to do this in a society where receiving a diploma and going to college can mean a wholly different way of life. Starfish Africa’s former students have gone on to great success; two have recently been accepted to attend universities in Kenya.

Affiliate History
Founded in 2005, Starfish Africa holds high hopes for Africa's future. Those hopes depend critically on the continent's next generation of leaders. It is the organization’s belief that if contributors help identify, enable, and empower those leaders, Africa will be in good hands.
