Cambodian School Kids seeks to provide scholarships for four students to be able to keep attending trade schools that are providing them with valuable skills. The students do not have the credentials to attend universities, but do have the motivation to work hard and gain an education in a useful trade. CSK supports this ambition in the form of full-tuition scholarships.
The trade schools currently attended by the students include mechanic school, seamstress school, and beauty school. Students who graduate from such programs have a significantly greater capacity to get good jobs and make a decent living. The four students currently participating in the trade school programs have benefited from enhanced self-esteem and have developed greater hope for the future. Several have already benefitted their families by using newly gained skills in night jobs.
The students usually pay up front for a semester or quarter for specialized training in addition to a small investment in supplies. Materials are a recurring expense. One student requires additional boarding costs since transportation from home is time consuming and expensive. All costs are paid directly to the provider and consequently do not get diverted to other family member needs.
