VEC desires to fund the tailoring of school uniforms for students attending its newly constructed boarding school. The traditional style uniforms will help build an appreciation in the students of their Himalayan heritage.
Purchasing the traditional uniforms will also stimulate the local economy, as a tailor will be engaged to measure each student and then make the uniforms. VEC will also train local villagers to make any necessary future alterations or patching of the uniforms.
The children attending VEC’s boarding school are impoverished and cannot afford adequate clothing. VEC desires to buy for them school uniforms that will create a sense of unity among the students while also reminding them of their cultural roots and helping the local economy.
With nearly 100 students wearing the traditional tunics and chupas that were once the predominant apparel in many Himalayan communities, the project will help preserve the fading culture of the Himalayan peoples while also serving a practical function. The project aims to promote both economic and cultural prosperity.
