Gulu, UGANDA / Southern Africa
The Board of Directors in Uganda will go on a retreat to focus on its own growth and the growth of the organization. The agenda will include activities to show appreciation to the board, team building exercises to increase group cohesion, brainstorming sessions to generate ideas and discussion, and vision and strategy casting to plan organizational growth. The Board works very hard to help oversee the direction of the organization, and in return its members receive no compensation. Their schedules outside of Krochet Kids-related activities is busy, meaning that ample time for them to come together to extensively share ideas is scarce. Often, decisions must be made as a reaction to circumstances instead of in a pre-planning mode. This is not as beneficial of a system as could be in place.
A weekend retreat to a modest location would provide the Board members with some time to rest, which is needed in their busy schedules. It would allow the Board to bond, ultimately improving their ability to work well together. It would also provide plenty of opportunities to discuss and generate new ideas regarding the organization, to share dreams for the future, and to plan methods for taking next steps in the organization’s growth.
