Georgian aid organization Keda CBO would like to purchase two CD players for use in the English and Russian classrooms at the local high school, along with other audio learning materials that supplement text books the students use to study these languages which are crucial to advancement in Georgia. In addition to two CD players, Keda CBO will also purchase the audio CDs that go with the textbooks that are used in the curriculum. These will be kept at the school for the use of the teachers in promoting the audio comprehension of the students in spoken English and Russian. The teachers at the school have no experience speaking English in a native environment and therefore speak with a heavy accent. This impedes their ability to develop fluency in English and harms their scores on the national exams as well as on national contests that can place students in universities in foreign countries. Exposure to spoken Russian has further decreased in the years since the collapse of the Soviet Union and as a result students are rapidly losing their ability to speak and understand a language that used to be considered a second language. Bringing audio learning materials into the classroom will both increase students’ exposure to native accents and greatly increase their ability to understand the languages beyond basic sayings and simple grammar. It will promote better scores on national university placement exams and increase the students’ competitiveness in national placement competitions.Keda CBO
