WOMEN Hyderabad plans to hold a series of lectures, discussions and problem-solving sessions aimed at enlightening women in the slum of Asifnagar of their legal rights. Women are routinely discriminated against in India in both in the slums and at work. Knowledge is power, and being aware of and asserting their legal rights will go far in enhancing the quality of life for the 300 women the campaign will reach.Attorneys will be engaged by WOMEN to lead the campaign, which will focus on employment law, property rights, and family law. As a would-be violator of these women’s rights will often reverse course merely upon a woman demonstrating her awareness of the illegality of a given action, the campaign seeks to enable women to solve problems amicably. The cost of the project will cover meals for the participating attorneys, who are otherwise serving for free, as well as several printed materials for participating women and a small snack at each of the gatherings.
