Project Details
Project Hope plans to teach music to underprivileged children in the refugee camps of Nablus using every-day household items, affording the children a fun experience as well as a therapeutic outlet. This project will facilitate music classes in neighborhood centers in refugee camps in the Nablus area. Children will be taught to make instruments and music with basic, household items such as beans and a jar, spoons and a rubber band and empty bottles. Classes will be a mixture of instrument making and music making and will be run in an atmosphere of openness and freedom of expression in which the instructor will encourage the students to be creative and experiment with sounds and materials. The project focuses on the mental health and growth of children that are often stunted by the violence and poverty that surround them, and simultaneously provides them with the opportunity to have fun and be creative, a chance that is seldom found in their lives. This project will be facilitated by international and local volunteers with backgrounds in music and music therapy. Classes will consist of 15 children, and will be held every week for a period of three months. The project cost will cover the materials necessary to cover the materials for the three month period. The program will commence within a week of the project being fully funded.Project Hope
