Yamini Foundation helps bring brightness into the lives of mentally challenged children by providing them education and therapy. Yamini runs a school in Hyderabad, India, that caters to the city’s special needs population. With facilities and programs for children with disabilities sorely lacking in the region, Yamini is truly a blessing for about 50 children who are mentally handicapped.
The school run by Yamini provides basic education that would otherwise be unavailable to many of its students. The school provides nutrition and health care for students while also taking measures to protect against the abuse and exploitation often visited upon vulnerable persons in a poor area. Yamini has made a special effort to bring in children with handicaps from Hyderabad’s slums and streets. Yamini provides children with self-confidence and supplies them with skills they can use for the rest of their lives.

That number has ballooned to over 50, as word has spread about the school’s excellent programs and its unique focus. In a culture where those with disabilities are often shunned, Yamini’s contributions are certainly distinctive.
Yamini plans to add staff and expand its facilities in the near future, as demand for spots in the school continue to increase. Yamini also provides regular medical services to its students and to the broader mentally handicapped community in Hyderabad.

Affiliate History
Yamini was founded in 2005 when Mr. Srinivasa Rao could not find adequate schooling for his mentally handicapped daughter. Not one to be dissuaded, he took matters into his own hands and started a school for mentally challenged children. The school, which draws on the services of teachers who have been trained to work with children with disabilities, originally counted just four students.
